A spalsh of colour from the Louis Vuitton store in Sydney

LV love it!

Renewing the hallway

We have a narrow hallway connecting the front of the house to the back; it also links bedrooms and a bathroom. After years of neglect from moving furniture around, kids, dog and tradesman’s it was time to give it a new look! I While doing the preparation work I realise this space has a lot of memories…from the marks left on the walls, doors and skirting it was definitely time for  a good sanding, filling cracks and holes and a scrub it was ready for painting and to give the hallway a new lease of life.

For all architraves and skirting I used Resene Lustacryl; colour ”double bison hide” all the woodwork is very old and it’s amazing how new it all looks once painted.

Applied for the walls is Resene space coat low sheen, in half spanish white

The ceiling and cornice were refreshed with Resene ceiling paint.

 The prep work…

Display and Storage

It is always interesting to visit new homes, when visiting clients, friends and family the furniture that attracts me the most is their bookcases and display collections. Theses artifacts reflect the personality of the homeowner, and not every two bookcases are the same! My uncle was and still is a passionate collector of everything Tintin. When visiting as a child I remember his bookcase pertaining the entire Tintin collection of books plus figurines of all the characters, it was a very inspiring and colourful bookcase, which never grows old.

Here are a my favorites style of bookcases…

This is a very sleek and organised bookcase, “Sistema” by Beyond Furniture, Sydney

The Juniper Shelves is by designer Kenneth Cobonpue, great as a feature or a room divider  it can be sourced via Ke Zu Sydney

For the wine collector, this is a great way to show how display cabinet can be used as room divider, “Soleto” by Beyond Furniture.

Who hasn’t got an IKEA bookcase, this is the “EXPEDIT” storage, the pigeon holes system that are so handy to categorise books, toys, audio system..For me the best way to find the book I am looking for is to categorise them by themes, gardening, cooking, art, design, health, it’s my mini library!

If you are into colour coding the content of your bookcase check Top3 by design in Sydney who has a wide range of ideas with great design.

If you have any questions on storage and display or are in search of bookcase and inspirations I am happy to answers and help with your enquiries. Please use the comment box below or contact me directly at info@arinteriors.com.au

“The Office” Concept to Finish

The design of the study/office is near completion, walls are painted and wallpapered, desk and cabinets have been installed. This space is shared with Serge the IT guy, my husband. The concept for this space is a picture perfect winter day with snow shining on pine trees…refreshing and stimulating ! While adding comfort and practicality to the space. The result is a clean feel with lots of storage.

Following the construction work here is what has happened to this small space…

Study frame work

While the walls and ceiling were being framed and plastered the colour concept and finishes were selected.

Samples

The desk top is from “Polytec” laminate in “Rocco Lini” with matt finish.

Paint on the walls is from “Resene”, walls and trims, architrave and skirting have the same colour ”Quarter Black White”

The ceiling and cornice are painted in pure white.

The roller blind has blockout and the finish is grey metallic.

The filing cabinet is painted with 4 different coats of paint, all from “Resene”
1 coat of smooth surface sealer
1 coat of base coat lumbersider in “grey”
2 coats of “blast grey 3″ which gives that metallic finish.

The wallpaper is from “Vision Wallcovering” Shoner Wohnen collection #1514-45

The wallpaper installation…it was a lot of fun…but a word of advise, prepare your walls well, check this video, its has great tips…

Timeless Pieces

Handcrafted Table

I love the look of handcrafted steel furniture, it shows a beautiful patina adding character to any interiors, the furniture can be placed outdoor or indoor, add some cushions covered  in natural fabric like cotton canvas or linen.

In need of some restoration, these two antique chairs have had their seats recane and stained to match the timber finish.
